Botox: Botox is a neuromodulator, specifically Botulinum Toxin Type A. It gets injected with an ultra fine needle to help block the signals that are needed to contract facial muscles. The repetitive contractions of those muscles cause wrinkles and expression lines. Botox decreases the movement of these muscles and therefore, decreases the appearance of wrinkles.
Fillers : The dermal filler we use is called Juvederm. It is made of a synthesized Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that temporarily adds volume to the facial tissues. As we age, the skin, fat pads and muscles begin to thin which leads to the appearance of facial folds causing more wrinkles and an unbalanced facial features. The dermal filler replenishes this volume loss creating a more youthful look.
Botox: There are a number of areas that botox can be utilized. The most common areas are the forehead, between the brows and the eye area (crows feet).
Fillers: Dermal Fillers are typically used to plump the lips, lift the cheeks, sculpt the jawline or add volume to the temporal area.
Botox: Most patients report a brief pinch during the injection that quickly dissipates. Botox gets injected with an ultra fine needle with minimal discomfort that requires no down time or anesthesia.
Fillers: A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin before placing dermal filler to help minimize any discomfort. Then, a fine needle or even a blunt needle called a cannula is used to inject the dermal filler.
Botox: Botox typically lasts ~3months. Patients may notice their Botox last longer when undergoing routine botox maintenance.
Fillers: Fillers can last between 12 months to 2 years depending on the type of filler injected.
Botox: Most patients begin to see results 5 days after injection. For other patients, it may take up to 2 weeks to take full effect.
Fillers :You will notice immediate results after fillers. Keep in mind, there will be swelling and maybe even bruising after the procedure.
We recommend patients to stop consuming alcohol about one week before any treatment. If applicable, we also recommend to stop taking certain medications 12 hours before treatment like aspirin, ibuprofen or supplements like fish oil, Gingko Biloba or Ginseng. By not consuming these, it will help prevent bruising.
Botox: Immediately after botox you may notice small bumps to areas injected. We recommend to not lay down for the next 4 hours and no exercise for the next 24 hours. You may cleanse the skin and hydrate like usual, but avoid heavy pressure; you don’t want the botox to migrate! Avoid makeup for 2-3 days if possible.
Fillers: After filler treatment, it is common to have swelling and/or bruising develop. Applying ice promptly after treatment will help minimize this. Swelling and bruising should resolve after two weeks of injection. You may cleanse the skin and hydrate like usual, but avoid heavy pressure; you don’t want the filler to migrate!
